With only 333 Audi R8 GT models to be built worldwide and 90 slated for U.S. buyers, the Audi of America established prices for the limited-edition vehicle starting at $196,800.

The entry of the 2012 R8 GT is regarded as an important milestone in the brand's supercar lineup. The car went through a significant exterior modification process aimed at enhancing its already stellar handling.

As compared to the Audi R8 Coupe 5.2 quattro, the R8 GT is powered by a modified 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine to produce 560 horsepower which is around 35 hp more than the former. Owing to the extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber body parts and other lightweight construction module, the R8 GT is approximately 180 pounds lighter than the R8 Coupe 5.2 quattro version.

This newest member of the company's sports car family also comes with its distinctive exterior and interior touches.

The seats, headliner, steering wheel and handbrake lever will be black Alcantara with contrast stitching while the door sills will include aluminum inserts with the R8 GT logo.

The grille, distinctive sideblade and other trim parts on the other hand will come in exclusive matte finishes.
