Liverpool advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a convincing 2-1 victory over long-time rival Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday.

Daniel Agger got the scoring started in the 21st minute when the hard-nosed defender headed the ball in off a corner kick.

Manchester United were able to even it up with a powerful strike from midfielder Ji-Sung Park in the 39th minute, off a well-placed cross from wingback Rafael.

The score would stay even until Liverpool substitute Dirk Kuyt broke the deadlock with an 88th minute strike that goalkeeper David De Gea was unable to react fast enough to block. Kuyt almost scored a minute later but simply miskicked a bouncer near the penalty spot.

Manchester United had some great chances in the match, like Antonio Valencia's 18th minute shot from distance that hit the post. Danny Welbeck had a golden opportunity in the 58th minute but was unable to execute a shot.

Liverpool took 14 shots with nine on goal, while Manchester United took nine shots with three on goal. The Red Devils had possession for 57 percent of the match.

The early exit from the FA Cup was yet another setback for Manchester United this season. They were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage, were stunned by Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup, and are currently behind local rival Manchester City in the Premier League.
