Using a computer mouse has basically required a hard surface for best usage. Until now.

Logitech has unveiled the Wireless Mouse M515. The mouse is able to work on soft surfaces such as sofas, beds or pillows. Logitech is calling it the mouse for the living room. It features a sealed bottom case that makes it able to glide on fabric along with a hand-detection sensor.

Millions of people are connecting their computer to the TV, and the M515 mouse was built to address the unique needs of this experience, Marcus Harvey, general manager of the U.K. and Ireland at Logitech, said in a statement. As technology evolves and consumers' habits change, Logitech continues to develop navigation devices that make it easier to control and access the things people love to do in the digital world.

The hand-detection sensor means the mouse is only active when the user grips it. It goes in sleep mode when the user is not gripping it. As for the sealed bottom, this prevents fabric fuzz from collecting in the sensor opening. An easy-gliding base allows for the navigation on the soft surfaces.

The mouse, Logitech says, comes with two years of battery life and plug-and-forget wireless connectivity. It is expected to be available in Europe beginning in April for a suggested retail price of £49.99. No word about American pricing, although it's listed at $50.00 on Amazon.

In the past, Logitech has designed mice for other unique surfaces including glass and laptop bags.
