Louis Tomlinson and Briana Jungwirth are battling over custody of their son, Freddie Reign. The One Direction member’s former fling is said to be keeping their baby from him — but why?

According to a report from TMZ, Tomlinson’s new girlfriend is the problem. He and Jungwirth are said to have been co-parenting well, until recently. The singer’s baby mama reportedly feels that Danielle Campbell, whom Tomlinson has been dating for several months, is an opportunist. She reportedly worries about Campbell knowing her home address and the codes to her security gate. Jungwirth is also said to hate that Tomlinson drops their son off smelling of another woman’s perfume.

While Campbell is believed to be the crux of their issues, her relationship with Tomlinson is not the only problem. TMZ claims that Jungwirth will reject Tomlinson’s joint custody plea if he hires a nanny. Her reasoning? She doesn’t feel that hiring help caring for children is real parenting. Jungwirth also reportedly feels strongly about keeping Freddie in the United States and wants to ensure that Tomlinson, a British native, is not able to take him elsewhere.

On Wednesday, People magazine reported that the “History” singer was filing for joint custody. Sources said he was seeking equal time for he and Jungwirth. The pair are believed to have decided on how they would divide their time with the 5-month-old outside of court.

Tomlinson and Jungwirth have been covered closely by the media for months, with many criticizing both their unusual circumstances and parenting styles. On May 8, Jungwirth took to Instagram to share a Mother’s Day post with followers. The Los Angeles stylist opened up about the many obstacles she’s faced since giving birth to her son, calling the last year “the best and worst” of her life. Jungwirth shamed “major media outlets” for bashing her, reminding fans that some publications reported that her son “wasn’t real.” The post has since been deleted.

It remains unclear if and when Tomlinson and Jungwirth will face off in court.
