Cereal Malt O Meal has been related to the infection of 23 people and 3 hospitalized with signs of Salmonella Agona last week and the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration has announced that at least 14 states reported illnesses .

During regular testing, Malt O Meal Company recalled two of its products on April 5, including unsweetened Puffed Rice and Puffed Wheat cereals with expiration date between April 8, 2008 and March 18, 2008.

This is not the first time, also in 1998, hundreds of cases of Salmonella Agona were linked to Malt O Meal cereal.

Not only is it the same strain of Salmonella but it's the same genetic fingerprint, coming out of the same plant. It makes me wonder how long the contamination has been present. said attorney William Marler, who represented victims of the first Malt-O-Meal epidemic according to Business Newswire.

The products were sold under the Malt O Meal brand and under private labels such as Acme, America's choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw's, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality.
