A man, who offered a ride to four women in Texas, wound up getting shot when two armed suspects ambushed him.

The police were now on the lookout for the two gunmen and the four women, who the authorities believe trapped the 20-year-old victim in what turned into an armed robbery case.

The victim was at a gym on Scott Street in Houston and had just finished working out when the four women approached him in the parking lot around midnight Thursday, according to KHOU 11 News. When the women asked him for a ride, the man agreed to drive them to a neighborhood near Clinton Park.

The man knew something was wrong just as they were about to reach the destination. He stopped the vehicle as one of the women started getting out of the car. Two gunmen then approached the vehicle.

One of the gunmen opened the door to the driver's side, while the other stood behind the car, the man later told the police.

The victim tried to drive away, but was shot before he could escape, according to ABC13 Houston.

"Fearing for his life, he sped away, at which point when he sped away, the Black male suspect discharged a firearm, striking him in the abdomen area," Lt. Ignacio Izaguirre with the Houston Police Department was quoted saying.

The police said three of the women were still inside the car, and soon fled the scene. One of the women managed to snatch the car keys from the ignition before running away.

The victim asked one of the residents in the area for help, following which the cops received a shooting report and responded to Clinton Park Street.

The injured man was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery. He is expected to survive.

The police believe the four women were part of a setup and had lured the man into the ambush.

An unrelated armed robbery incident that took place last month saw a woman shooting and killing a suspected carjacker in "self-defense," the police said. As a group of armed men tried to steal her car, the victim grabbed one of their guns and ran away. The woman then shot one of the men, who chased after her and tackled her from behind.
