A man arrested for starting a fire at a Ripleys Haunted House museum in South Carolina had a bizarre explanation for his action. He said he was "cleansing the world."

The 37-year-old man, identified as Daniel Huff, was accused of starting a fire in Myrtle Beach in South Carolina on Saturday. While Huff was being detained, he told police he was "cleansing the world by burning the synagogue," ABC 15 reported

On Saturday night, the Myrtle Beach Police responded to reports of a fire inside the Ripleys Haunted House near the Carolina Country Music festival venue. They heard people yelling "fire."'

On reaching the scene, the officers saw a part of the tunnel inside the building in flames. A witness told police about a possible suspect who was seen walking away from the scene after setting it on fire.

Based on the details provided by the witness, Myrtle Beach police detectives, with the help of an agent from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), located Huff at a nearby street shortly after the incident.

Huff was detained on charges of second-degree arson and was transported to the Myrtle Beach jail. No bond has been set, News 13 reported.

After the incident, police taped off the crime scene. The officers from Myrtle Beach Fire Department arrived and put out the fire. A bomb squad also examined the area. Investigators said they have received the security video footage of the incident.

No injuries have been reported in the incident.

A few months ago, a man from California was arrested on suspicion of torching a business after he was fired from his job. Fabian Vera, 36, an employee from a construction company was arrested after an investigation revealed that he deliberately started a fire at the company's property on March 10. Video footage from the premises also showed Vera vandalizing the property before setting it ablaze and fleeing the scene. Even though the firefighters quickly contained multiple fires at the property, it still sustained $75,000 worth of damages.
