A man in Malaysia was arrested after he killed his 4-year-old step-grandson by throwing the boy off the third-floor apartment.

The man, a 42-year-old Nigerian who was not identified by local media, stayed with his wife, their child, stepchildren, and the step-grandson at an apartment in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

On Sunday morning, the accused attempted to rape the 4-year-old boy’s mother, but was stopped by his wife and other children. In a fit of rage, the accused hit all his family members.

"Further investigation found that the suspect is a 42-year-old Nigerian who attempted to rape one of his stepchildren who was sleeping in the living room but was stopped by his wife and kids aged between 19 and 29 years old. Angered at his stepfamily, the suspect began running amok and hitting all members of the family," police officer Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said, World of Buzz reported.

In an attempt to save themselves, the man’s wife and children ran out of the home and began screaming for help.

"The wife and children tried to run out to save themselves and called for help. Seeing them screaming for help, the suspect picked up his step-grandson, who was in a weakened state, and threw him out of the window of the main room," the officer said as per The Straits Times.

The child died on the spot and the accused, who fled the scene by jumping out of the same window, was caught by the neighbors.

"The suspect, however, was not injured and apprehended by members of the public before turning him in, to the authorities," the officer added.

A case of murder has been registered against the step-grandfather and he remained in jail as of Sunday night.

The incident comes weeks after a woman in India killed her newborn son by throwing him from a third-floor apartment. Lavanya had frequent fights with her husband and the couple failed to sort out their problems despite attending several counseling sessions. Triggered by the marital dispute, the woman flung her 14-day-old son to death from her parents’ apartment.
