In his first match against his former club, Robin van Persie led Manchester United to an early lead that they would never relinquish in their 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford.

With visiting fans bearing down on him, van Persie scored in the first three minutes with a swooping strike across the area to the top left corner of the goal.

The Dutchman now has 10 goals in his first 13 games since joining United this summer.

Patrice Evra scored the Reds second goal in the 67th minute off a header, and Arsenal was down a man after Jack Wilshire was sent off with a red card in the 69 th.

With 10 men left, the Gunners got on the board in penalty time in the second half, after Santi Cazorla rifled a shot from the top of the area

United forced six corner kicks to Arsenal’s one, in a very physical game with seven yellow cards and Wilshire’s red.
