Matt Bomer Is Gay: More Celebrities Who Came Out in 2011-2012Matt Bomer, the star of USA show "White Collar," came out as a gay man during the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards over the weekend. But Matt Bomer isn't the only celebrity who has come out of the closet recently. From Evan Rachel Wood, who came out as bisexual in April 2011, to Zachary Quinto, who revealed that he was gay in October 2012, here are six more celebrities who came out in 2011-2012.
Zachary Quinto"As a gay man," the "Star Trek" actor told New York Magazine in October 2011, "I look at that [teen suicides] and say there's a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say 'Why?' Where's this disparity coming from, and why can't we, as a culture and society, dig deeper to examine that?'" "We're terrified," he concluded, "of facing ourselves."
Evan Rachel WoodThe "True Blood" alum revealed bisexual in April 2011. "Yeah, that's a big part of who I am," she told Marie Claire, "and it always has been for as long as I can remember."
Dan KloefflerThe ABC News anchor was inspired to come out on air after Zachary Quinto revealed that he was gay. "As a journalist, I don't want to be the story," Kloeffler said. "But as a gay man, I don't want to stand silent if I can offer some inspiration or encouragement to kids that might be struggling with who they are."
Sean MaherThe “Firefly” alum was tormented when he was in the closet. “It was so exhausting, and I was so miserable,” he told Entertainment Weekly in September 2011. “ [But] I do believe that sort of this journey took me to the place where I got and I don’t think I would feel so strongly about doing what I’m doing now had I not suffered for the years that I did.”
Don LemonThe CNN news anchor came out to the New York Times in May 2011. "It's quite different for an African-American male,” he told the paper. It's about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You're taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In the black community they think you can pray the gay away."
Kristy McNicholThe 50-year-old "Empty Nest" and "Family Matters" alum decided to come out as a lesbian because she hoped that “coming out can help kids who need support,” her publicist told People in January 2012. "She would like to help others who feel different."
