Thorsten Heins was named the new CEO of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) on Monday.

He replaced co-CEO's of RIM Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie who resigned from their posts on Saturday.

Heins takes over as company president and CEO while the two former CEO's will move to other functions within the company.

Heins was recommended to the board by Lazaridis and Balsillie. The board voted unanimously to accept the plan and appoint Heins.
