Melissa King's reign as Miss Delaware Teen USA was short-lived. King had to relinquish the title after a porn video surfaced online earlier this week.

King, 18, has denied that she is the woman in the video posted Monday on GirlsDoPorn.com. King, who was crowned Miss Delaware Teen USA last year, said she decided to step down on Tuesday to avoid further scandal. The (Delaware) News Journal said the porn video, which was shot last summer, features a woman who looks and sounds like King.

King told the newspaper that the woman in the video was “absolutely not” her, and said that she believes it is a case of mistaken identity.

Messages the newspaper sent to King’s attorney, identified by pageant officials as J. Gregory Hannigan, weren't returned. It also said the porn site hasn't responded to questions sent Tuesday evening.

Pageant officials said runner-up Hailey Lawler, 17, will replace King as Miss Delaware Teen USA. Her mother, Suzanne Lawler, declined comment, saying it hadn't officially been declared as of Tuesday evening, the News Journal reported.

Gawker reported that the woman appearing in the video said that she had participated in beauty pageants and turned 18 in March.

In a YouTube video that has since been removed, King said she grew up in foster care, between the ages of 12 and 18, and had financial difficulties. As part of her volunteer duties required of Miss Delaware Teen USA, King said she planned to work with foster children.

King has said that she plans to issue a full statement amid allegations she is the woman in the porn video, and pageant officials have said they are also preparing a response, the News Journal said.

On Twitter, King has remained relatively silent about the porn video allegations, mostly responding to well-wishers. In a recent tweet, she said “God wouldn't give you something that you couldn't handle ...”
