Two people were killed and up to eight others were injured, including a teenage girl, during a shooting early Tuesday morning in Miami.

The shooting occurred at an apartment complex in Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood around 2 a.m., according to the Miami Herald. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the other fatality, described by family as 26-year-old Nakiel Jackson, died at a hospital, NBC Miami reported.

Five injured victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. One victim taken to the hospital was in critical condition, another was stable and three others were in serious condition, Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll told the station.

Police were still searching for the suspects around 6 a.m. Tuesday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. It’s unclear what prompted the shooting.

"It's very early in our investigation," Miami police spokeswoman Federica Burden told Associated Press. "I'm not sure how it occurred. We're investigating it now. I don't know if they were all outside standing, some in a car, some not in a car. I don't know that yet."

She said while some victims were transported to area hospitals, others walked in for treatment on their own.
