Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract extension to stay with the club through the 2013-2014 season.

This is the third recent move by Manchester United to hold onto their key players. Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs both signed contracts in February.

Carrick arrived from Tottenham in 2006 and has made 218 appearances for the Red Devils.

Locking in the 29 year old is probably a good move for the club considering the uncertain futures of midfielders Paul Scholes and Anderson.

Carrick began his career with West Ham United before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2004. He has 22 caps for England.
