‘The Mindy Project’ Season 6 Spoilers: Mindy, Danny Reunite, ‘Annoy’ Each Other

“The Mindy Project” Season 6 will soon see Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) reuniting with her ex-partner, Danny Castellano (Chris Messina).

Ahead of the Hulu series’ Sept. 12 premiere, a photo of Mindy and Danny having a heated conversation was released online. On her Instagram account, Kaling shared a photo of herself with Messina on the set of “The Mindy Project” Season 6. She captioned the photo by saying that Mindy and Danny are once again annoying each other.

Last week, a trailer for “The Mindy Project” Season 6 was also released, and it featured some of Mindy’s ex-boyfriends. However, Danny was nowhere to be seen in the almost two-minute clip.

Kaling confirmed Messina’s return in the series in July, but said that the actor won’t be present in all 10 episodes. Even if this was the case, Mindy and Danny will still share plenty of scenes together. In fact, the series will feature a 10-month time-jump wherein Mindy has already ended her marriage to Ben (Bryan Greenberg). However, it is still unclear whether or not Danny will also be single when he reunites with his ex.

“We’re not interested in tying everything up in a bow. We’re trying to avoid that, while also leaving the audience with the sense that Mindy had some growth… Happily ever after can sometimes be romantic happiness, but it can also be a feeling of contentment about your life as a professional persona and as a mother,” she said (via TV Line).

“The Mindy Project” executive producer Matt Warburton has also promised that fans will get some clarity about where Mindy and Danny stand in each other’s lives. “They’re both married to other people, so we went into the final season with that complication, which is fun and delicious,” he said in July.

Meanwhile, Mindy and Danny’s relationship isn’t the only thing that will be explored in the upcoming episodes. Garret Dillahunt’s Jody may also find love in the series. “Devious Maids” alum Ana Ortiz has been tapped to play the recurring role of Dr. Mary Hernandez. The doctor will be in direct competition with Jody’s practice, but they will eventually develop a bond.
