Miss Florida Myrrhanda Jones set Twitter abuzz Sunday night when she showed up with a bedazzled knee brace at the Miss America 2014 pageant in Atlantic City, N.J. The beauty queen hurt her knee during rehearsals for the pageant’s last night of preliminary competition, ABC News reported Friday. But a little injury wasn’t going to get in the way of Jones’ dreams.

The 20-year-old wound up going on to finish her baton-twirling act and wound up winning recognition for top talent performance, ABC News said. She fell on Thursday morning, suffering an injury that would have most football players out for the season. “Football players normally do this in a game and they’re out for the rest of the season, they don’t come back,” Jones told ABC News. “It’s not exactly like that here. I’m coming back.”

Jones was determined to come back to Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall even though her right knee’s anterior cruciate ligament was completely torn and medial collateral ligament was partially torn. “I’m probably one of the most competitive people here, and I’m ready to do it. I’m really ready to do this. I’m excited. I think it’s gonna be great,” she said. “I’m finishing this thing.”

Jones added: “I firmly believe if there’s a will, there’s a way. I willed myself to be here, I willed myself to win Miss Florida, and I’m willing myself to win Miss America.”

Twitter users took a liking to Jones after getting a look at her bejeweled knee brace and because she found the strength to continue in the competition despite her injury. (Miss Kansas Theresa Vail is also a fan favorite. The soldier is the only contestant who showed off her tattoos during the beauty pageant.)
