Good deeds often go unrewarded but sometimes turn fatal too as happened in an incident in Mississippi where a woman fatally shot her husband while aiming at a dog that was attacking some children on Friday.

According to Mississippi police officials, Betty Walker opened fire on a pit bull that had threatened some children, but ended up shooting and killing her 53-year-old husband, Robert Walker.

Witnesses informed the police that the pit bull ,Cocaine, was going after some children. According to Robert's son, his father took the children inside and picked the dog up. It was then that Betty fired, hitting the dog and her husband in the chest, reported the Washington Post.

The report also stated that Colendula Green, Jackson police spokeswoman, considered the death accidental. However, a Hinds County grand jury would decide whether to charge Betty or not.

The dog has been confiscated by animal control and its owner, Lazarius Montgomery, may face charges.
