“Mistresses” Season 4 ended with a major cliffhanger: is Karen Kim (Yunjin Kim) dead or alive?

Following the shocking ending, executive producer Rina Mimoun confirmed to TV Line that Karen was killed off because Kim will no longer return to the hit ABC series if it will be renewed for another season. As of late, the network hasn’t confirmed the show’s cancellation, and Mimoun is hopeful “Mistresses” will have a fifth season because she already has a 10-page pitch starring the last two of the original four mistresses, Joss (Jes Macallan) and April (Rochelle Aytes).

However, Mimoun clarified that Season 5 will not be about Joss and April mainly becoming new parents to their babies with Harry (Brett Tucker) and Marc (Rob Mayes), respectively. “We are not going to suddenly become a show about April and Joss pushing swings on the playground and chatting about breast milk. We want to make a wide left turn that still allows us to stay true to the characters. We’re not going to become the ‘baby show’ if we get another season, I can promise you that. We have some real fun planned,” she said.

Meanwhile, Yahoo TV reported that “Mistresses” didn’t receive a renewal notice before the finale episode for Season 4 aired. The ratings of the series also dropped in the penultimate Season 4 episode that aired on Labor Day with 2.6 million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating compared to its season 4 premiere that garnered 3.1 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating.

TV Line also reported that the finale episode for “Mistresses” Season 4 received a 0.6 demo rating with 2.6 million viewers. Fans of the series gave the episode a B rating.

“Mistresses” Season 4 aired its two-hour finale on Sept. 5 and 6 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
