Teams that pulled off upsets in the wild-card round of the 2022 MLB playoffs are now threatening to do the same in the division series. The lowest-seeded clubs in the National League have stolen home-field advantage and are headed back to their ballparks with the NLDS tied at 1-1.

The San Diego Padres took Game 2 from the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3, evening up their series. The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves on the road in the series opener. Atlanta shut out Philadelphia in Game 2.

The Dodgers entered the postseason atop the playoff bracket as the clear favorites to win the World Series. Los Angeles won a franchise-record 111 games for the best record in baseball. The Dodgers scored the most runs in the majors and posted the lowest ERA.

Los Angeles dominated San Diego in the regular-season, winning the season series 14-5 and outscoring the Padres by 62 runs in those games. None of that matters in the NLDS, however, and San Diego has a chance to eliminate the Dodgers without going back to Los Angeles.

Blake Snell will take the mound for the Padres against Tony Gonsolin in San Diego Friday. Snell took the loss in his first playoff start of the year, giving up two runs in 3.1 innings.

The Padres upset the New York Mets in the wild-card round, taking two of three games at Citi Field. The Mets were forced to play before the NLDS because they blew a 10.5-game lead in the division to the Braves. Now, it's the third-place team in the NL East that is threatening to make the NLCS.

Before losing Game 2 in Atlanta, Philadelphia had started the postseason with three straight wins. The Phillies swept the St. Louis Cardinals in their wild-card series, outscoring the NL Central champs 8-3. Philadelphia held off Atlanta 7-6 in Game 1 of the NLDS.

Aaron Nola returns to the mound for the Phillies at home in Game 3. The right-hander threw 6.2 shutout innings in the wild-card clincher. On Sept. 23 against Atlanta in Philadelphia, Nola pitched six scoreless innings in a Phillies' victory.

The Phillies had a losing record on the road during the regular season. Philadelphia went 47-34 at home.

The Braves finished 14 games ahead of the Phillies in the final standings. The Dodgers won the NL West crown with a 22-game edge on the Padres.

Even in a short series, a loss for the Braves or Dodgers against one of their divisional rivals would have to be considered an unexpected and disappointing end to their playoff run.

The Dodgers and Braves are still favored to meet in the NLCS for a third straight year. It's been over a decade since either the Padres or Phillies advanced beyond the NLDS.
