The town of Moama in NSW will temporarily be renamed Motown in November as part of a fundraising and awareness campaign on men's health, the Murray Shire Council announced Friday.

The one-month event dubbed Movember was conceived by Pete White from Echuca Moama Events and will involved men growing moustache to raise funds for the Prostrate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the national depression initiative Beyond Blue.

White, a strong supporter of cancer fundraising initiatives, said the fundraiser will also involve as many businesses as possible and these establishments will have their own innovative ways to raise money for fighting prostate cancer and depression.

With one in five Australians expected to suffer depression at some point of their lives, the campaign is very timely.

It is a very serious illness and as a result of drought, depression has been magnified within our immediate region and also regional Australia. Equally as important, around 20,000 men in Australia each year are diagnosed with prostate cancer, Governmentnews.com quoted Murray Shire Mayor Brian Sharp as saying in a statement.
