Brian Griffin's death on "Family Guy" has triggered a cultural reaction. Fans everywhere were shocked and the Internet was buzzing with the news, some looking for answers why such a popular character would be killed off while others searched for a fitting tribute for the beloved animated dog. In the wake of Brian's death here are just few shocking TV deaths from 2013.

"Game of Thrones" - "The Red Wedding"

While some people who have read George R.R. Martin's series "A Song of Ice and Fire" knew what was coming but fans who only watched the HBO series were in for quite the shock as the events of the "Red Wedding" unraveled. What was supposed to be a wedding feast, with the nuptials of Edmure Tully and Roslyn Frey under the roof of Lord Walder Frey, ended in betrayal and death. Lord Frey, still stinging from the broken wedding promise made by Robb Stark, joined up with the Lannisters for revenge. With "The Rains of Castamere" playing, the Lannister song detailing the destruction of House Reyne, Robb Stark and Talisa, along with their unborn child, were killed by Frey's men. Catelyn Stark and most of the Stark bannermen were also killed. Two major character deaths, as well as the destruction of an army, had "GoT" fans screaming but with a series willing to kill off its biggest character, Eddard "Ned" Stark, in the first season fans have come to expect the unexpected.

"Downton Abbey" - Matthew Crawley's Death

The third season of "Downton Abbey" featured the shocking death of Lady Sybil Branson and many expected the Christmas special, "A Journey to the Highlands," to bring some good news and end the season on a positive note. All seemed to go according to plan, Lady Mary was pregnant and at the end of the special went into labor. Matthew and Mary get to share a moment with their son before he has to drive back to Downton. The final moments see Matthew getting into a car accident and dying. While UK fans were confronted with Matthew's death in 2012, American fans had to wait until the series aired in January 2013.

“True Blood” - Steve Newlin

Steve Newlin was a conflicted character on “True Blood.” First an anti-vampire advocate he soon embraced the lifestyle after being turned. Newlin meets his fate in Vamp Camp when Eric prevents him from being saved, Newlin was responsible for leaking information to the Louisiana Area Vampire Task Force. Newlin dies after being exposed to sunlight but not before he professes his love for Jason Stackhouse.

“Breaking Bad” – Walter White

The end of AMC’s popular series features the end of Walter White. In “Felina,” the end has come for White although his meth empire is in good hands with Jesse Pinkman. With police hot on his heels, White makes sure his family is set for life, the main reason he started cooking meth after learning he had inoperable lung cancer. The last scene of “Breaking Bad” features the police breaking into the meth lab to find White dead on the floor.

“The Walking Dead” – Andrea

Andrea was captured by the Governor, after fleeing from the prison. In “Welcome to the Tombs,” she is held captive with Milton inside the Governor’s torture chamber. Milton was later turned into a zombie but not before helping Andrea escape. Before she can free both hands, zombie Milton bites Andrea. Rather than being turned into a zombie, Andrea commits suicide.
