It's been a great week for guilty food pleasures: first, Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's, and today, National Grilled Cheese Day.

Grilled cheese sandwiches are one of the most popular comfort foods, with more than 2 billion consumed every year, according to NPD data.

On this special day honoring them, why not take part in the festivities? In midtown Manhattan, Hudson Common, a new beer hall and burger joint, is offering a special limited-edition version of the traditional melt for one week.

The trendy space, located on West 58th Street, is selling a grilled cheese sandwich called the Salted Caramel Angry Lobster Fatty Melt. It features Yancy Farms White Cheddar Curds, Brooklyn Salvatore Smoked Ricotta, 2 Sisters Gouda, Tickler Cheddar, Fromage Blanc, Prairie Breeze Cheddar, Butter Milk with Red Chili-Chipotle Lobster Salad, and a caramel drizzle.

For a classic version -- and a freebie, to boot -- head to Red Hook, Brooklyn, where the newly opened Brooklyn Slate Factory will be handing out free grilled cheese sandwiches on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Additionally, in celebration of National Grilled Cheese Day, the Chef MJ Brando line of food products is offering a special rebate mail-in offer exclusively on Facebook (www.facebook.com/chefmjbrando). The special offer is valid with the purchase of any Chef MJ Brando Grilled Cheese Sandwich between April 12 and April 30. The rebate form is available through the Chef MJ Brando Facebook page at www.facebook.com/chefmjbrando. Enjoy!
