National Sweetest Day is on Saturday and is celebrated to show the ones closest to you how much you care and love them. This day usually falls on the third Saturday in October.

The National Sweetest Day was created in 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, by confectioner Herbert Birch Kingston and was originally named "Sweetest Day of the Year."

To mark this day, Kingston formed a committee and brought more than 20,000 small gifts and chocolates to orphans, the elderly and the poor.

This day is not only to remember those who may be elderly, orphaned or sick but also to show your affection towards those who have shown kindness and helpfulness.

Ten states that widely celebrate the holiday are Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Washington. The holiday is also celebrated to some degree in parts of New York and Pennsylvania.
