Nationals Park Light Tower Sets On Fire During 11th Inning Of Nationals, Diamondbacks Game [VIDEO]

A light tower above right field at Nationals Park In Washington, D.C., caught on fire due to a "minor technical malfunction" during the 11th inning of the Nationals' 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks Thursday.

"There was a minor technical malfunction in the lights above Section 226. All those in the vicinity were immediately evacuated and our facilities team is currently looking into what may have caused the problem," the team said in a statement.

The fire did not spread, and play on the field went on uninterrupted.

Meanwhile, the Nationals dropped to 39-39 after losing the last game of a three game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks and now trail the Atlanta Braves by 5½ games.  

The team starts another three-game series on Friday in New York with the Mets.
