After plenty of speculation, it looks like there will be a very big announcement during the 2015 Game Awards in regards to “Mortal Kombat X.” The acclaimed fighting game is set to have more downloadable content (DLC) and some of it will be revealed during the big event, including the revelation of a brand new character.

The news was revealed through the Twitter account of “Mortal Kombat” creator Ed Boon, who tweeted an image of the Game Awards with the classic “Who’s next?” phrase from the fighting game. It will be interesting to see who indeed is next, especially since the game is known for its unique fighters and character designs.

It was announced back in September that “Mortal Kombat X” would gain four more DLC characters during the first half of 2016, as reported by GameSpot. If the last game’s DLC meant anything fans can expect a few classic characters from the “Mortal Kombat” series, along with some very special guest stars.

Last year’s DLC brought Jason Vorhees from “Friday the 13th and Predator from the “Predator” films, along with two classic “Mortal Kombat” characters; Tanya and Tremor. In addition to these characters, fans also had access to classic skins for fighters from older games, like Scorpion and Sub Zero to name a few.

As of this writing there doesn’t appear to be a clear indication on who is going to be revealed during the Game Awards. Previous rumors suggested that Spawn from Image Comics would be a DLC character, especially since the character’s creator Todd McFarlane gave his blessing for the development team in NetherRealms to use him.

Guest characters appear to be the norm for “Mortal Kombat” series now. This first started with the ninth game in the series simply called “Mortal Kombat” for PS3 and Xbox 360. The fighting game had some very famous guest stars, including Freddy Kruger from “Nightmare on Elm Street” and Kratos from “God of War,” though he was a PS3 exclusive character.

The Game Awards will start Thursday, which will have various announcements for games like “Far Cry Primal,” “Quantum Break” and now, “Mortal Kombat X.” It’s not yet known if all four characters will be revealed or if it will only be one of the four.
