Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but dresses are her love affair. The Fall 2012 runways at New York Fashion Week boasted some stunning new dress styles for the upcoming season including fur accents, lower hemlines, bright crimson hues and bold patterns.

Fur accents were huge on the Fall 2012 runways with the soft coating making appearances on jackets, tops, dresses and bags. Fur-accented dresses are particularly luxe, mixing classic femininity and a regal flair. Filipa Fino, founder and editor of the Fino File and former Accessories Director at Vogue, loved the look. To me I think fur is fun; and you can great faux fur. It's modern [now]. It's bits and pieces. That full coat might feel heavy and wrong; but having the collars and sleeves and trims even on accessories, it gives you that luxe element without the heaviness of full fur. You can update your look very easily, Fino told IBTimes Fashion & Life.

Lower hemlines were in unison with the return of the lady. Women will be keeping their gams undercover for Fall 2012. Numerous designers from Tracy Reese to Nanette Lepore to Calvin Klein showed opted for a far more demure look for the season. Put away your mini skirts for Fall 2012. Hemlines fall at the knee and two-inches below. Tory Burch's decadently ladylike collection will have you clamoring for your pearls.

Crimson washed over New York Fashion Week, with many designers dipping their palettes in the red sea. Jason Wu's collection was particularly striking for its use of the crimson hue. He was inspired by China. I went back to Taiwan, where I was born, a year and a half ago, Wu told Vogue. I realized I was ready to take on one of the biggest subjects I grew up with, how does a Chinese designer do 'China'? I've lived in America, Canada, and Japan, but to come back to this means so much to me. Red popped on dresses, skirts, jackets and hats.

Finally, bold patterns stood out on Fall 2012 runways splattered across even the most glamorous of gowns. Naeem Khan experimented with black and white prints whereas Carolina Herrera went for bright watercolors.
