‘New Girl’
Will Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) tie the knot in “New Girl” Season 7? Fox

“New Girl” Season 7 may finally see Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) tie the knot.

According to TV Line, the eight-episode final season of the hit Fox TV series will feature a four-year time-jump. Before the show’s renewal, Deschanel told the publication that Jess and Nick will be struggling with the decision to get married or not.

“Jess wants him to propose, and then she decides she’s happy with the way it is. So we’ll see,” she said at that time.

But a lot of things can happen in four years, and the synopsis for episode 2 suggests that Jess and Nick will already be married in Season 7. In episode 2, Jess will start working at a non-profit run by her former love, Russell (Dermot Mulroney).

Nick won’t have any problem with the fact that Jess could be earning less since she used to work as a teacher. However, Nick may not approve of the fact that Jess would be spending a lot of time with her former fling.

But with or without a wedding for Jess, Deschanel said that she will most definitely cry while filming the final episodes of the series. “This has been seven years of my life. It’s longer than any job I’ve had. It’s a really long time to be with a group of people, so I’ll definitely be very sad,” she said.

Meanwhile, “New Girl” was renewed for eight more episodes after Johnson made an appeal to the executives at Fox. “I was one of the cast members that wrote them and asked for more. I said, ‘I don’t think you guys gave us enough time to finish the show the right way. And I would really appreciate – and I think the fans would appreciate – a final goodbye to these characters,’” he told TV Line.

Another highlight from Season 7 other than Nick and Jess’ wedding will be the arrival of Winston’s (Lamorne Morris) dad. J.B. Smoove was cast to give life to the unnamed character earlier this month.

“New Girl” Season 7 will premiere on Fox sometime in March or April.
