Mardi Gras 2016 and the king cake and iconic plastic bead-filled frenzy that comes along with the New Orleans celebration has already begun. The festivities have been a tradition in the Louisiana city since 1857.

For many, the numerous parades, which are headed by different krewes, are the most anticipated part of the festivities. Revelers camp out in the streets to check out the ornate floats and brass bands, and perhaps, catch some beads and other regalia thrown into the crowds.
