Goals from Luke Rodgers and Thierry Henry helped New York Red Bulls beat Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0 and give themselves a fair shout of making the final play-off berth.

The Galaxy have already qualified for the play-offs although the loss did come at a cost - they missed out on a second straight Supporters Shield for best regular-season record, having won their previous four games coming into this match.

Landon Donovan (injury) and Robbie Keane (international duty) were amongst the absentees for Galaxy and New York capitalized. Had they been more clinical in their finishing, the scoreline would have been far greater than 2-0.

However, they did their job and have accumulated 43 points, level with Houston, and have a decent chance of finishing first in the Eastern Conference. They play Sporting Kansas City and Philadelphia in their remaining two games.
