Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has suggested a “cognitive test” is needed for President Joe Biden and others in government leadership positions who are older in order to restore the faith of voters.

In a Thursday interview with conservative news network Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) host David Brody, Haley specifically named Biden, who is also the oldest president in U.S. history. He turned 78 two months before he was sworn into office.

Haley said, “[President Biden] keeps giving signals that he’s not with it. So, it’s not people hating on Biden, it’s Biden really showing the country that he’s not totally in change."

She went on to add, "Whether it’s the House, whether it’s the Senate, whether it’s Vice President, whether it’s President, you should have some sort of cognitive test...We’ve got a lot of people in leadership positions that are old. And that’s not being disrespectful, that’s a fact.”

Haley's comments come after a round of pictures and videos showed Biden appearing to “doze off” during a session at the COP26 climate summit on Monday. An aide had to wake him up, according to CNN.

Questions of Biden’s health have been debated since the announcement of his candidacy. Nicknames like "Sleepy Joe" and jokes about his stutter have been among common criticisms.

There were also those who argued former President Donald Trump was mentally unfit for office because of his behavior. At 70 years of age, Trump was the oldest U.S. president in history to assume the role at the time of his inauguration.
