Nintendo of America Inc. announced Wednesday that the owners of the Nintendo Wii console will be ale to watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix directly to their TVs.

Netflix is scheduled to go live on the Wii consolle this spring in the United States, Nintendo said in a statement today. The service will not have additional cost to Netflix members who have a plan starting at $8.99 a month, a Wii console and a brodband Internet connection, the companies said.

Soon both new and longtime Wii owners will enjoy the benefits of Netflix - and a variety of informational and entertainment options - by being Netflix members and connecting their consoles to the Internet, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement.

Despite of the economic downturn last year, Nintendo has sold more than 26 million of the Wii consoles.
Netflix had 11.1 million U.S. subscribers as of Sept. 30, 2009.
