The reason behind Kim Kardashian and Kanye West naming their first daughter North has finally been revealed. Sources close to the couple tell TMZ that they thought of the name as a metaphor for “up.”

And they even asked friends, “What’s North of North?” West and Kardashian see North as the uppermost peak, and consider their first child to be the highlight of their relationship. It is believed that their daughter’s nickname will be Nori.

Kardashian, 32, gave birth last Saturday in Beverly Hills and kept quiet about her new daughter, but Kim’s youngest sister Khloe made sure to tweet fans, writing, "I cannot even begin 2 describe the miracle that is now a part of our family," Khloe tweeted on Sunday. "Mommy/baby are healthy & resting. We appreciate all the love."

While it was rumored that West would not be in the delivery room during the birth, he skipped out on his own listening party to make sure he was by Kardashian’s side. "Yeah he was there [at the hospital]. He's so cute. He doesn't leave the room. He's, like, in love with the baby. It's so cute,” Kardashian’s best friend Larsa Pippen told E! News.

Though Kardashian gave birth five weeks earlier than expected, her mother, Kris Jenner, said that everything is OK with her daughter and the newborn. “We’re all fine. We’re all good. Extremely happy and thrilled for the new baby. She’s doing great and she’s beautiful,” Jenner told “Headline News” on Sunday.
