A man died after being hit by a roller coaster Thursday at Cedar Point amusement park in the northern city of Sandusky, Ohio. Park authorities said the accident took place when the man entered a restricted area below the Raptor roller coaster while searching for his lost cellphone.

The man was identified as 45-year-old James A. Young of East Canton in Ohio, according to NBC 5's affiliate station WKYC. He was reportedly declared dead at the scene.

“He apparently jumped over the fence and then when he stood up he was hit by the Raptor, that’s what we think,” Erie County Coroner Brian Baxter told NBC 5. He added that an investigation was ongoing. No other casualty was reported.

Cedar Point, which calls itself the “roller coaster capital of the world,” also tweeted about the incident.

According to Cedar Point's website, the Raptor roller coaster travels at speeds up to 57 mph.

Minor accidents have been recorded at Cedar Point’s rides in recent years. However, some fatal incidents also took place at the amusement park in the '80s and '90s.
