the originals season 2 spoilers
Elijah (Daniel Gillies, right) will be forced to relive the painful memories of his past in episode 5 of "The Originals" when "Red Door" goes back in time when he and Klaus (Joseph Morgan, left) were both in love with Tatia (Nina Dobrev). CW

Love, heartache, betrayal -- those are just a few ways to describe next week’s episode of “The Originals.” And according to reports, that’s not all viewers should anticipate in episode 5, which airs on Monday. The Season 2 synopsis for “Red Door” suggests it will be one of the show’s most interesting installments as episode 5 takes us back, way back, in time to a moment where Elijah (Daniel Gillies) was at his most vulnerable.

When episode 4 concluded, Esther, who was currently using Lenore (Sonja Sohn) as a vessel, stabbed and captured Elijah in her witchy lair to “purify” him. And while we’re ecstatic that Esther doesn’t want to see Elijah dead, we can’t help but imagine what kind of suffering he’ll endure during his purification process when he’s forced to relive the death of his first love.

Nina Dobrev will make her debut on "The Originals" as the the original Petrova doppelgänger Tatia. CW

Before there was an Elena, a Katherine and an Amara there was Tatia (Nina Dobrev) -- the original Petrova doppelgänger from the Middle Ages. She was a pure character that both Mikaelson brothers fell in love with. However, their desire for the striking young woman caused Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah to start a feud, something their mother Esther couldn’t bare to watch. So, for the sake of her sons, she killed Tatia and used her blood to create the Original Vampires (a bit dramatic if you ask us). Esther also used Tatia’s blood to bind Klaus’ werewolf side, which resulted in his gene being dormant and him becoming weak.

In episode 5, Elijah will have to revisit those painful memories -- that is, unless Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) can get to him first. Hayley is completely unaware of the trouble Elijah is currently in. In fact, during episode 4 she said to a newbie vamp (who was worried when Elijah hadn’t returned home) that he’s fully capable of taking care of himself. Boy, will she be eating her words when she gets wind of who has Elijah in her clutches.

And Elijah isn’t the only Mikaelson brother in need of a helping hand. Klaus will also find himself smack in the middle of danger during episode 5, which will put Hayley between a rock and a hard place. Does she save the father of her daughter or the man who has proven his love and loyalty to her?

According to the synopsis for episode 5, Mikael (Sebastian Roche) will manage to set himself free from Klaus’ trunk and end up taking Cami (Leah Pipes) captive as a way to lure his werewolf stepson to him. Maybe the two will finally put a stake through the father-son feud once and for all in “Red Door.”

It was also revealed in the summary that Davina (Danielle Campbell) will “make an upsetting discovery” when she finds out who Kaleb (Daniel Sharman) really is. It’s about time! There’s only so long Davina could be fooled by his charming accent and good looks.
