Outlander
Claire (Caitriona Balfe) worries about Jamie (Sam Heughan) in a new scene from "Outlander" Season 1. Starz

“Outlander” fans are in the middle of a long hiatus, but they can get a little relief from “droughtlander” with the Season 1, Volume 2 DVD set. Special features include never-before-seen footage of the Starz time travel drama, including deleted scenes with Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). In one scene that was cut from Season 1, Jamie and Claire share a sweet kiss.

The two discuss a favor for a Duke, which seems to indicate that this clip was cut from episode 10. Jamie wanted Duke Sandringham (Simon Callow) to help clear his name. However, the Duke needed a favor in return. He asked that Jamie accompany him to a duel. Jamie is obviously willing to do anything to prove his innocence, but Claire is concerned.

“The second in a duel is but a glorified bystander,” Jamie tells his wife. “It’s not to concern yourself with.” Jamie explains that the Duke couldn’t pick a servant or someone of the lower class because it would be an insult to his opponent.

“But a stable boy is acceptable?” Claire retorts.

“I’m no stable boy,” Jamie says. “I’m the Laird of Lallybroch.”

Claire apologizes. She is just worried about her husband being in a duel. “Men like the Duke don’t grant favors without asking for something in return. It’s the currency of powerful men,” Jamie says. “I’m just glad he’s not asking anything more of me.” Jamie promises that they’ll chat about it when he gets home, and he gives his wife a sweet kiss before leaving her.

The kiss is certainly tamer than some of Jamie and Claire’s other romantic scenes. Heughan admitted that the actors sometimes need a drink before filming the more graphic sequences. “There’s a lot of Dutch courage going on there — you know, a strong nip of whiskey before we start,” Heughan told the Toronto Star in April. “But honestly, Caitriona and I use all that energy and we’re there for each other.”

It looks like Jamie and Claire will continue to have romantic moments in “Outlander” Season 2. Although they’ll spend plenty of time attempting to change history and stop the Jacobite rebellion, they’ve also been photographed locking lips while filming the new episodes.

“Outlander” Season 2 will premiere in 2016 on Starz. “Outlander” Season 1, Volume 2 will be released on Sept. 29.
