The Paleo Diet rounds off the list for the ‘Best Diet’ in 2014: But how easy is it to eat like a caveman? Wikipedia

It probably comes as no surprise that the most popular New Year’s resolution is to lose weight, so as we embrace the new year with hopes of smaller waists we are always on the hunt for the next big diet trend. To help us along the way News and World Report this week released their list of best overall diets for 2014.

Making the list in last place is the Paleo Diet, which encourages people to follow a diet plan followed by people between 2.6 and 10,000 years ago. It could be the oldest diet in the world, as you become the hunter again following a caveman inspired plan.

Regressing back to a time with no soap, stoves or microwaves may not seem appealing to most, this diet was the most searched diet term on Google in 2013- so it’s fair to see that we are curious about this unique approach to losing weight.

So what exactly do you eat when following this diet plan that encourages you to eat like a hunter?

The diet is heavy on produce and animal products: You eat meat, fish, seafood, fruit, vegetables, eggs, nuts and seeds. You can’t have anything processed, refined sugar, potatoes, cereal grains and salt….so there goes your social life!!!

To me it sounds like a more intense version of the Atkins diet which has again made headlines when Kim Kardashian said it helped her shed 50lbs after giving birth.

The U.S News and World Report did however put the Paleo diet as last on their list of best diets; The reason being that this diet would be hard to maintain long term, and over time you would be lacking a lot of essential vitamins and nutrients.
