“Paranormal Activity,” the progenitor of horror’s most recent obsession with found-footage, has been AWOL from the theaters since the sixth installment, 2015’s “The Ghost Dimension.” While not the longest absence, it feels like an eternity for the franchise which once dropped new entries annually from 2009-2012. Recently, however, Paramount Pictures has revealed that horror lovers can expect more camcorder antics in the near future.

As reported by Deadline, Paramount confirmed a new installment in the prolific horror series while discussing their upcoming release slate at CineEurope in Barcelona on Wednesday.

“We are partnering with uber horror producer Jason Blum to bring a new installment of 'Paranormal Activity,'” Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos confirmed.

No other information is available at this time, including the film’s title, release date, writers, director, or whether it will continue the series’ story or act as a reboot of sorts.

Oren Peli wrote and directed the first “Paranormal Activity” in his own home over the course of a week. It was initially shown at festivals before catching the eye of high-powered producers, which led to a wide release in October 2009. The $15k-budgeted indie eventually made $193 million worldwide, spawning a six-film franchise that has made $890 million worldwide. Peli hasn’t directed an entry since the first film but has acted as a producer on every film.

Paramount’s CineEurope’s presentation also included presentations of footage from Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man,” “Sonic the Hedgehog,” and surprise look at the upcoming Tom Cruise sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick.” They also confirmed that "A Quiet Place 2" has officially begun production for its March 2020 release.
