Paul Anthony Ciancia of New Jersey has been identified as the LAX shooter, according to multiple news reports. The Associated Press, CBS News and NBC News are all saying that Ciancia, 23, of Pennsville, N.J., is the gunman who police say opened fire at Terminal 3 in Los Angeles International Airport Friday morning.

Seven people were wounded in the incident -- six of those were taken to hospitals. One man, identified as a Transportation Security Administration agent, was killed.

An eyewitness who said he encountered the shooter described the experience to MSNBC.

"All he said was, 'TSA?' Just like that," Leon Saryan told MSNBC. It's unclear whether the shooter was targeting TSA agents.

Patrick Gannon, chief of police at LAX, said the incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. local time Friday when the man went into Terminal 3, pulled out an assault rifle and opened fire in the terminal. The gunman, who has been identified in multiple reports as Ciancia, then went by the screening area of the terminal and continued shooting. LAX police responded immediately, according to Gannon, and opened fire on the gunman. The shooter was then taken into custody. He's been listed in critical condition.

A motive for the LAX shooting was unclear, but federal officials told NBC News that Ciancia allegedly had anti-government writings on his person. The Associated Press reported that Ciancia had a note that indicated he "wanted to kill TSA and pigs."
