Fans of the Showtime series “Penny Dreadful” still have three episodes left in Season 2 to enjoy, but now they can also start looking forward to Season 3. Showtime announced Wednesday that it had renewed the horror drama for another nine episodes to air next year.

According to Variety, the third season will begin production this fall in Dublin. Showtime Networks president David Nevins expressed confidence in the writing team in announcing the new episode order.

“John Logan’s brilliant writing and this amazingly talented ensemble continue to draw a passionate, global fan base into the meticulously crafted world of ‘Penny Dreadful,' ” said Nevins. “Together with our wonderful partners at Sky Atlantic, we’re excited to see what new haunts John and his team have in store for season three.”

In Sunday's episode 7 of the current season, Vanessa (Eva Green) and Ethan (Josh Hartnett) retreated to the Cut-Wife's cottage on the moors. Plus, Lyle (Simon Russell Beale) and Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) discovered something about the Verbis Diablo relics. According to the synopsis for episode 8, “Memento Mori,” the Creature (Rory Kinnear) will unleash his rage, and Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) plans to confront Evelyn (Helen McCrory).

How will things end in Season 2? Fans will have to keep watching to find out. “Penny Dreadful” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EDT on Showtime. Season 3 will air in 2016.
