Jason Pierre-Paul has kept out of the public eye since he lost his right index finger in a July 4 fireworks accident, but his injured hand has been spotted for the first time. The New York Daily News obtained a picture of the New York Giants defensive end, showing the damage that was caused more than two months ago.

The picture shows Pierre-Paul missing his index finger, which has been known for some time, and it also appears that he no longer has the tip of his right thumb. It wasn’t reported that the 26-year-old lost part of his thumb until after he met with the Giants last week.

Pierre-Paul also has a bandage on his middle finger, on which reportedly had a procedure on Sept 4. New York’s top defensive player missed the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, and it’s unknown when he’ll be able to take the field. Pierre-Paul is reportedly confident that he won’t miss much more time, though some members of the organization aren’t as optimistic.
