What was thought only to be a rumor has now been proven true. It is possible to jailbreak the PlayStation 3, using a JB2 dongle and firmware version 3.55. A video that has been making the rounds on YouTube has discussed ways by which the jailbreak can be done.

The solution, JB2, which was previously being sold as an early test run in Indonesia, requires a PS3 that has the v3.55 firmware installed. The rest can be done via the JB2 dongle which needs to be inserted before switching the console on.

Games like X-Men Destiny, God of War: Origins, Driver: San Francisco, FIFA 2012 and PES 2012 have already been confirmed as working with the jailbreaking solution. In order to achieve this, a unique JB2 design game disc format for burning will be required.

Users with PS3 game ROMs, the JB2 dongle and the capability to burn Blu-ray discs will have things easier. Other games like Batman: Arkham Asylum, Resistance 3 and Disgaea 4 could also be compatible.

The dongles, as per sources, cost around $50 and have a unique blue design on the cases they come in, according to a Geek report.
