Legendary Pokémon could indeed be coming to “Pokémon GO” this summer. A new feature has already went live in Niantic’s famous mobile game, and it could be signaling the imminent arrival of Mewtwo, Legendary birds Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos and a few more powerful creatures.

Last Tuesday, Niantic made the previously leaked Promos section official. The new feature is already live, and it can be found in the game’s Shop just below the items that are for sale there. On the support page for “Pokémon GO,” Niantic stated that this feature is used for redeeming items using promotional codes that will be made available to Trainers through partnerships and special events.

Niantic indicated that the redeemable items players should watch out for are the “Poké Balls, Lure Modules, Lucky Eggs and more.” While the first three entries easily captured the interests of Trainers, the last part is what’s intriguing fans who have been patiently waiting for a big game changer to arrive.

Will Legendaries Be Obtainable Through Promo Codes?

On the Pokémon GO Hub website, one of the frequently asked questions listed is “How to get Legendary Promo Codes?” The moderator of the site stated that there hasn’t been any confirmation if Legendary Pokémon would be obtainable through promo codes. Interestingly, the moderator still alluded to this idea by saying that rumors are pointing toward the possibility that Niantic could reward Legendary Pokémon to players who will participate in what the developer formerly announced as large-scale events. It is then presumed that lucky players will only get to have their hands on Legendaries through this promo code system.

Niantic has yet to announce what the “and more” part on the new feature’s support page really refers to, but there’s reason to believe that this involves Legendary Pokémon. Daily Star reports that based on what’s circulating right now about the big changes coming to the game, it’s very likely that Niantic will introduce the Legendaries during its planned large-scale events. There is already one event slated to happen this summer, so Trainers will finally find out if the Legendary creatures would be given to participants through promo codes by then.

Where To Get Promo Codes Aside From Large-Scale Events?

If not through the large-scale events, it’s also possible that special promo codes will be handed to players through special PokéStops or those sponsored by companies that have teamed up with Niantic. Daily Star set an example by stating that Starbucks PokéStops could be giving Lure Modules for every sale of a particular drink.

At this point, the best place to obtain promo codes from is the Pokémon Go Promo Codes online list, but it is still empty. Players can expect promo codes to appear there once they are announced. Another way of getting promo codes is by attending special events and participating in certain promotions that Niantic will launch henceforth. The moderator of the Hub also revealed that there would be various code reward challenges in the near future, and solving these challenges could cause one to earn promo codes.

Do Promo Codes Have An Expiry?

Niantic’s other game, “Ingress,” also has the same promotions feature. Most promo codes in that game can be used for a couple of times before they expire. There are also “Ingress” codes that can last for a very long time. Alhough “Pokémon GO” promo codes are expected to follow the same rules, the Pokémon GO Hub moderator said that the codes that will start rolling out in the near future could be intended for one time use only per event or promotion.

Why Is The Promotions Feature Live In The Android App Only?

As indicated on the game’s support page, code redemption is available on Android devices only. This has obviously shocked players who are accessing Niantic’s game using iOS devices. On the Pokémon GO Hub site, it is explained there why users of Apple products will not have access to the Promos section in the in-game Shop. Apparently, Apple has insisted on collecting a 30 percent fee on ever iOS transaction, be it online or offline. This App Store guideline has barred the code distribution system Niantic prepared, according to SlashGear. So instead of pushing through with the addition of the Promos feature to the iOS app, Niantic decided to just follow what it did to the iOS version of “Ingress.” Therefore, Trainers will have to load a specialized website on their iOS device whenever they want to redeem “Pokémon GO” codes.

How Does One Redeem A Promo Code?

Redeeming promo codes will come very easy to Android users, especially those who have already stumbled upon the feature when it was leaked a few days ago. To get to the Promos section, Trainers should first tap the Main Menu button while in the Map View. They should then select Shop from the Main Menu options. Once they are already in the Shop, they should scroll all the way to the bottom and look for the text field that says “Enter your promo code.” After keying in the promo code, they should hit Redeem and wait for a notification about items being added to the inventory.

More information about the new Promos feature will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
