An incident in which a baby fell from one of the stories of a hospital parking garage is being investigated as a crime and not an accident, police say.

Authorities in Orange, California received a 911 call after 6 p.m. on Monday, saying that an infant had just fallen from the parking garage of Children's Hospital of Orange County.

The infant is a boy and believed to be between one and three months old, the Los Angeles Times reported.

He received critical injuries and was taken to a trauma center at UC Irvine Medical Center for treatment, MSNBC.com reported.

Police locked down the garage and viewed surveillance footage, hoping to find a clue. The child is believed to have been thrown or dropped, according to the Orange County Register, MSNBC.com reported.

It's a horrific crime, Orange police sergeant Dan Adams said, the AP reported. We obviously don't think this is an accident.
