In 1978, Affirmed became the last racehorse to win the Triple Crown. Following Secretariat and Seattle Slew, he was the third horse to accomplish the feat in a six-year span.

In the past 35 years, 12 horses have been able to win both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. On Saturday, Orb looks to join that list when he runs at Pimlico.

Orb went into Churchill Downs as the favorite and has even better odds to win the 2013 Preakness. In the days leading up to the race he has become an odds-on favorite at 10/11. With experts almost unanimously taking Orb with their predictions, is there any chance that the Kentucky Derby winner will be upset?

Departing and Mylute have the best shot of stopping Orb’s attempt at history, according to the betting odds at Bovada.lv. Departing is coming off a win at the Illinois Derby, though the race didn’t consist of a very strong field. Mylute finished fifth at the Kentucky Derby and couldn’t keep up with Orb for the final few furlongs.

With only nine horses in the entire field, Orb may be on his way to winning his sixth straight race. He drew the No.1 post position, which contributed to the last time he lost. With only eight other horses on the track, though, Orb should be able to avoid getting caught up in a lot of traffic.

In a tougher field, it might be more of a challenge for Orb to enter the Belmont Stakes with a chance to win the Triple Crown. However, there’s no question that he is the best horse in the field. Hall of Fame trainers Wayne Lukas and Bob Baffert both told ESPN that the best horse always wins at the Preakness.
