In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman and her new-born died as she attempted to deliver the baby alone in her rented room. The incident took place in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Police on Monday said the woman was watching a video on how to give birth on her mobile. She was reportedly alone at the time. Authorities said the incident came to light after the woman's neighbors saw blood coming out of her room.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman and her baby son lying in a pool of blood. A pair of scissors, blade and some thread were found in the room, the police said.

"The woman was 25-years-old and unmarried. She died in an attempt to deliver baby alone in her room for which she came to live on rent just four days ago. However, she was living in Gorakhpur for the last four years and was preparing for competitive exams," Ravi Rai, a police official, told local TV network NDTV.

Rai said that no formal complaint had been filed in the case as the woman's family did not reveal details about the father of the child.

This is not the first incident in the country where a woman has died while trying to give birth to a child watching an online tutorial. Last year, a 28-year-old woman from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu died while giving birth to a child at her home. However, in this case, the woman was assisted by her husband and two other friends. According to local reports, the placenta did not come out and the woman started bleeding profusely.

The couple's friends had reportedly suggested to them that giving birth at home would be better than going to the hospital, the Times of India reported at the time.
