A pregnant first-grade teacher was brutally assaulted last week by alleged gang members who stole her car as she was parking in front of her Los Angeles home, but she remains in good spirits.

Tanya Nguyen, 33, who was 12 weeks pregnant, was stabbed 10 times, receiving injuries to her face and chest. She also was stabbed multiple times in her hand. Shortly after the attack, her husband, Greg Maga, said that Nguyen tried to protect herself during the stabbing but they "don't know yet about the baby," according to NBC.

The suspects were later identified as Christian Reyes, 20, Andrew Bran, 19, Jesus Morales, 18, Christina Luna, 24, and Monica Gomez, 25. They are facing one count each of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder, carjacking, second-degree robbery, and hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage. If convicted, they face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Three of the suspects reportedly approached Nguyen's Sedan on March 20 and asked for her phone. Reyes, who is facing an additional charge, then allegedly proceeded to stab her before leaving with two of the other suspects in the stolen car. They did not get far though, as they slammed into a parked car on the same block. The other suspects were waiting nearby in a getaway car, according to the DA's office.

Nguyen is now in stable condition and has thanked people for their well-wishes.

"I'm completely overwhelmed by it, and very grateful for all your support and being there for me," she said in a video that was posted online. "I'm gonna get through this. I promise."
