Champions Manchester United have a tough first few weeks in the 2011-12 season as they face three sides in the top six in the first five matches. They start their defence at West Brom, on 13 August, before hosting Tottenham Hotspur and potential title rivas Arsenal in the next two games. They then travel to Bolton before attempting to ward off Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Chelsea have a slightly less-challenging initial weeks, though they face a tough opener in Stoke City. They then host West Brom and Norwich at Stamford Bridge, though they face a tough trip to United shortly thereafter.

Manchester City, who finished third last season, begin their campaign against newly-promoted side Swansea at Eastlands, before taking on Bolton, Tottenham, Wigan and Fulham in short succession.

Arsenal have tough opening fixtures too. They begin at Newcastle - a game which produced a classic last season - before hosting Liverpool and making the trip to Manchester United.

Liverpool will begin at Sunderland meaning their new signing, Jordan Henderson, will go straight back to his old home. Tottenham face Everton at White Hart Lane, in what could be a thriller in the opening day, along with Fulham who take on Aston Villa at the Craven Cottage.
