San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence capped off a winning performance in Game 1 of the 2014 World Series with an awkward interview with FOX reporter Erin Andrews. Pence, who hit a home run in a 7-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals, had to correct Andrews after she mistakenly credited him as the voice of San Francisco’s pre-game motivational speech.

“You told us today the theme of the pre-game speech would kind of be, ‘there’s nothing to fear,’” Andrews said to start the interview. “You just handed the Royals their first loss of the postseason, you absolutely took this crowd out of it, what’s the next message in the clubhouse.”

In response, Pence pointed out that Andrews was wrong about both the speech and its speaker. Giants closer Santiago Casilla had actually delivered the pre-game pep talk. “Well yeah, that wasn’t the message and I wasn’t the speaker, it was actually Casilla,” Pence said. “I said ‘make your peace with the king of kings and go out there and enjoy it.’”

Pence then apologized for correcting Andrews, who seemed to appreciate his candid response. “Thanks so much. Thanks for correcting me, I love it. You know I appreciate it,” Andrews added.

This isn't the first time that Andrews has had to power through an awkward postgame interview. She held the microphone for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman's infamous tirade after his game-saving pass deflection in the 2013 NFC Championship game.

The Royals will host the Giants for Game 2 of the 2014 World Series at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The Giants led the series, 1-0.
