Pope Francis Mania Sweeps The US: Beer, Shirts, Buttons And The Best Papal Merchandise
Pope Francis arrived in America Tuesday, much to the delight of "Franciscophiles." While some residents of the cities he'll visit -- Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia -- bemoan the security measures being taken, small business and merchants there are excited about selling papal merchandise. From holy beer to buttons, there's something for everyone.
Pope Francis merchandise comes in official and unofficial flavors. Aramark is in charge of the official pope merchandise in Philadelphia. Practically every aspect of swag is covered by the World Meeting of Families, the organizers of the papal visit to Philadelphia. There's an "I Heart Pope Francis" T-shirt that'll set you back $20. A Francis bobblehead costs $25 and a 10-inch plush doll is $20. You can also purchase a 10-inch Francis standee that's perfect for any table or shelf -- a lifesize version is available for $160. There's also a variety of religious items and prayer cards available for purchase.
For unofficial merchandise, the only limit is one's imagination. Many vendors are selling hats, shirts, buttons, portraits and prayer cards near venues the pope will visit. Philadelphia Brewing Co. has crafted an "official beer of the pope." Dubbed "Holy Wooder," the beer is a Belgian-style tripel.
Pastificio crafted Pope Francis mozzarella for a delicious way to celebrate the papal visit to America.
Cookies, colognes, "pope corn" and papal baseballs are all being sold, Vocativ reported. Pope-on-a-rope soap is available on Etsy for $20.
