News spread that a senate report detailing the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency's "enhanced interrogation techniques" will be released this week and Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, expressed his safety concerns for Americans abroad. "Our own intelligence community has assessed that this will cause violence and deaths. ... We have seen what happens when other incidents are used in the propaganda terrorist machine to incite violence," Rogers said in an interview with CNN. Inventor Of First Home Video Game Console Dies

The New York Times published an obituary celebrating the life of Ralph H. Baer. While people might know "Pong" or "Tetris" and may have grown up with a console plugged into their television, Baer invented the home console. Baer designed and developed the Odyssey, filing the first video gaeme patent in 1971, and later licensed the Odyssey to Magnavox in 1972. The NYT obit includes an interesting look at the legal battle between Baer and Atari over "Pong." Atari released the game in arcades later that year. Magnavox was successful and would also win over video game suits, racking up $100 million in settlements.

Sadly, the Console Living Room, backed by the Internet Archive, does not have the first Odyssey available to play online but it does have its successor, the Magnavox Odyssey 2 which was released in 1978.

India's New Comic Superhero Is A Rape Survivor

Priya's Shakti, created by Ram Devineni and Mauli Singh, will be released on Dec. 15 and focuses on Priya as she teams up with the Goddass Parvati. Priya is a gang-rape survivor and Devineni told the BBC the comic was developed after the New Dehli bus gang rape in 2012. "The project centers on the Goddess Parvati and Priya, a mortal woman devotee and survivor of rape and is rooted in ancient matriarchal traditions that have been displaced in modern representations of Hindu culture. It creates an alternative narrative and voice against GBV in popular culture through the Hindu mythological canon," reads the project's description. The comic's release is even more timely after the news that an Uber driver allegedly raped a woman in New Dehli.
